71st Republic Day Celebrations The Delhi Republic Day parade is the largest and most important of the parades marking the Republic Day celebrations in India. The parade takes place every year on 26 January at Rajpath, New Delhi. It is the main attraction of India’s Republic Day celebrations, which last for 3 days.
India will celebrate its 71st Republic Day on 26 January. People celebrate Republic Day as on this day, the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950.
It will be done for the full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade, raising the possibility of traffic congestion.
The rehearsal started at 9.50 am at Vijay Chowk and will proceed towards the Red Fort via Rajpath,and Netaji Subhash Marg.
So it has been restricted till the rehearsal is over on Thursday, and from 6 pm Saturday till the parade concludes on Sunday, police said in an advisory.
The main Republic Day Parade gets underway at 9.30 a.m., following the flag hoisting at 9 a.m., on January 26 each year. It runs for around three hours. A full dress rehearsal is also held a few days before the actual event.
The Republic Day Parade takes places along Rajpath, in Delhi. Its route, which is more than five kilometers long, sets out from Raisina Hill near Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s Palace) and follows Rajpath past India Gate and on to the Red Fort.
The Republic Day Parade kicks off with the arrival of the President of India, escorted by a pose of bodyguards on horses. The Prime Minister of India lays a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to pay homage to those who lost their lives in war.
The Parade is led by the three divisions of the Indian armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) who display their strength. Features include performances by India’s Border Security Force “Daredevils” motorcycle stunt team, Sikh Light Infantry, the Grenadiers, and the Parachute Regiment. There’s also a showcase of weapons and combat vehicles, and a dramatic airshow as the grand finale. Of note, the Air Force’s new Apache attack and Chinook heavy lift helicopters will be participating in the fly past for the first time.
In addition, Captain Tania Shergill, a fourth-generation Army officer, will be the first female parade adjutant (responsible for the parade) this year.
In the parade different departments of various indian states and state government highlights an aspect of their culture.
There will be 22 floats (15 states, one union territory, and six government departments) in this year’s parade, selected by a panel set up by the Ministry of Defence from the proposals received.
These are from Assam, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir,
The Republic Day Parade is a ticketed event. They go on sale a couple of weeks before the event.
You can get the tickets, at North Block Roundabout, Sena Bhawan (Gate No. 2), Pragati Maidan (Gate No. 1), Jantar Mantar (Main Gate), Shastri Bhawan (Gate No. 3).The timing of buying ticket is between 10 am-12.30 pm and 2 pm-4.30 pm. The minimum price of ticket is Rs 20 while the maximum price is Rs 500 depending on the distance.
Things to Note:
One of the ticket counters in Sena Bhawan will remain open between January 23-25 till 7 pm.
On January 23, the ticket counters will open in the afternoon after the conclusion of the full dress rehearsal
This year the chief guest for R-Day is Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. PM Modi has invited Bolsonaro to become the chief guest at the Republic Day this year.
The Ministry of Defence has selected 22 tableau out of 56 proposals for the Republic Day parade.
